Doctorate Dr. Wirges
Congratulations to Sascha Wirges who presented and successfully defended his doctoral thesis on "Traffic Scene Perception for Automated Driving using Grid Maps"!
Sascha developed a perception pipeline fusing data from multiple range sensors into a top-view grid map representation (e.g. encoding occupancy and height information) from which he derived a model of the traffic scene. His model uses methods from evidence theory and self-supervised learning to provide information about observability, drivability, traffic participants and generic, unseen obstacles. Which makes it perfect to be used on Bertha, our experimental vehicle platform.
Sascha, we wish you a great vacation with your family and hope to see you back soon at MRT.
